Project WIDER
The main objective of the projects was to improve management, knowledge exchange and networking in terms of innovation in the housing sector to detect new market opportunities for the PYMES throughout the supply chain of eco & smart housing for the elderly. The projects were located in industrial areas of the MED Region (Algarve, Central Macedonia, Catalonia, Rhone Alpes, Marche, Slovenia and Sarajevo).
The WIDER European Project promoted by the European Commission (EC) had supported the development of seven Catalan PYMES projects in the field of adapting smart and sustainable homes for the elderly.
Currently, the European population over 65 years represents 17% of the population, but the projection of the European Union is that in 2030 it will reach 30%. This initiative allowed Catalan companies to carry out test, demonstrations and prototypes to access to this business niche and get closer to the commercialization and innovation phase.
Innovative smart devices for communication between the elderly and the adaptation of housing spaces to improve the medical assistance are some of the results of the projects developed in WIDER.
