Project – EXCELIVING, THE HABITAT VALUE CHAIN TOWARDS HEALTHY, AGE-FRIENDLY AND SUSTAINABLE LIVING ENVIRONMENTS

The Excellent Living Environments (EXCELIVING) project aims to address the challenges faced by the Habitat value chain nowadays, contributing to promoting a favourable ecosystem to give the European Habitat value chain a competitive lead in the promotion of healthy, age-friendly, and sustainable spaces.

  This Strategic Mapping Study of the Healthy Living Habitat is a comprehensive effort to understand the current state of the Habitat value chain across four different countries (Denmark, Portugal, Romania and Spain) and identify key trends and challenges that need to be addressed. This study is part of the EXCELIVING project, which aims to develop excellent living environments.

In this sense, the EXCELIVING project adopts a multi-stakeholder and multi-sectoral approach involving different European clusters related to the Habitat value chain.

Living environments are human-made spaces where people live, sleep, eat, work, study, enjoy culture and entertainment, make purchases, and so on. In European countries, people spend more than 90% of their time inside buildings.

The current global trends characterised, among others, by the demographical change, the Covid-19 pandemic health crisis, and the increase of awareness of sustainability and ecological principles, have revealed the close connection between living environments and health as living environments can strengthen or reduce the intellectual and physical comfort conditions.

As appointed by the World Health Organisation (WHO): “Health is the state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not only the absence of diseases or disabilities”.

The EXCELIVING project is focused on the habitat value chain with a cross-sectorial approach to its different sectors and dimensions: construction building materials, furniture and lighting, home automation, welfare technology, etc.

In this sense, the EXCELIVING promotes a holistic dimension of the living environments, focusing on a set of elements that have a direct impact on the promotion of healthy, age-friendly, and sustainable environments:
